Oct. 15th, 2011 02:11 pmYesterday I was informed that my child will be born with Tricuspid Atresia, a single ventricle malformation of the heart that's going to require multiple surgery over the first few years of its life. Their life quality will be impacted.
Our child is high risk, and will be born directly into an Infant Intensive Care Unit.

Date: 2011-10-16 09:04 am (UTC)I think my cousin-in-law was born with that, actually, or something very similar. He's had numerous heart surgeries and was extremely lucky to have been born (back in the 80s) in a hospital which could even operate on him. It's been terrifying for parents, of course.
But he is alive, healthy, happy, and a great guy today. Aside from the obvious hardships of heart surgery as a baby and a teen, his 'quality of life' has been very good.
I hope the best for your little one.
