Immediate update to the to-do list, quick before someone dies!

So about that health thing I've been mentioning here recently...

I have been overdue for a medical check-up for quite a few years. And apparently I made a serious mistake by not taking my health seriously for the past... hey what decade am I in now? I have been meaning to get back into a doctor's office for an incredibly long time, but unfortunately I have never been able to afford it. Finally, after so many years of trying the system, I had given up. I tried the public system. (I am either too white or too poor), I tried health advocacy programs (which I've mentioned here.) And every time we thought we were cleared to be able to afford my seeing a doctor, someone else would get hurt or sick. My family back home currently has a wing of the local hospital being named after us, not through donations but because people are always asking "where's Thompson" anyways...

Finally enough dust settled from each other explosion that everyone decided it was my turn (that and seriously Obama, it's been a few months, fix the site I needed this a long time ago), so I was handed a blank check and sent out to get some help.

A few days ago I found out I was misdiagnosed. Back at the turn of the century I was told I was a type II diabetic.

I'm actually a type I (or so they believe, there's still a lot of testing). Somehow, through blind tenacity and dumb luck, I managed to keep myself alive for the past 14 years without using insulin or frequent (or any, i'm working class irish) medical assistance. However, it looks like whatever it was that has kept me going has run dry.

Anyone who's been reading my friends-only content here for the past few years can probably put the math down at this point.

My health has been deteriorating at any incredibly fast rate. This downward turn of events is only getting more dramatic*.

Right now I am out of the medicine I need to keep me alive.

I am, in all senses of the word, dying.

...

So yeah, guess it's time to reshuffle my priorities. http://getyourshittogether.org/

Right when my score at codeacademy was really good this week. Bummer.

*Is this irony? I can't tell anymore.

comments
